Job Description

The Napa Sanitation District collects, treats, recycles and disposes wastewater for the Napa community. Napa San’s ELAP-certified laboratory constantly monitors the wastewater as it undergoes treatment and after treatment is complete, to ensure that stringent water quality regulations are met. The lab collects and analyzes over 10,000 samples each year and conducts over 22,000 tests to identify a variety of wastewater constituents, including conventional pollutants, metals, toxic organics and pathogens. The successful applicants will work alongside professional laboratory technicians as they gain real-world laboratory analysis experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities needed:

  • Successful completion of biology and chemistry classes
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Skill in and ability to follow testing protocols repeatedly
  • Desire to learn skills now that can help lead to a future career


What Successful Applicant Will Receive:
  • Hands-on experience in the fields of environmental laboratory research
  • Experience in the wastewater field, working alongside licensed and certified wastewater professionals


Minimum Qualifications:

Completed course work in chemistry, biology or environmental science. Must be considering either further study or a career in the laboratory sciences.


Compensation and Duration:

Starting at $12.00/hour for High School Intern and $14.00/hour for College Intern, depending on experience.
Up to full time, 40 hours per week, during summer break from high school or college. Intention is to hire one high school intern and one college intern.
